Aluminium 6082 Alloy

The 6000 series alloy with the maximum strength is 6082 aluminium.

Aluminum alloy 6082 has replaced 6061 in many applications due to its increased strength. The extra-high manganese content controls the grain structure, which results in a stronger alloy.

Aluminum alloy 6082 machines well in the T6 and T651 temper and emits tight coils of swarf when chip breakers are used.

The material 6082, also known as HE30 or a "structural alloy," is frequently utilised in high-stress construction projects like cranes and bridges. The alloy has taken the place of 6061 in many places because of its outstanding corrosion resistance. When compared to other 6000 series alloys, the extruded version is not as smooth.

Key Features:

6082 offers excellent corrosion resistance. Available in bar, plate, sheet and tube, the alloy is used in many structural applications.

Typical Applications:

  • Precision Engineering Projects
  • Cranes
  • Ore skips
  • Milk churns
  • Bridges
  • Roof trusses

Fabrication

Workability - Cold: Good

Machinability: Good

Weldability

Although 6082 has great weldability, the weld zone loses strength. Wire made of alloy 4043 works best when welded to itself. When joining 6082 to 7005, alloy 5356 wire should be used.

Weldability – Gas: Good

Weldability – Arc: Good

Weldability – Resistance: Good

Brazability: Good

Solderability: Good
